This is the 2nd book of this series that I've read, and I must say that it continues the story of the first book with more of the knowledge of Military Action that one would hope for in a dystopian Post-Apocalyptic scenario. The world is thrown back essentially to the 1850's, with no electricity because of the effect of a CME (Coronal Mass ejection). What distinguishes this book series from others in this genre is the emphasis on reasonable Military Maneuvers and strategy. The author was in the Military as a career and knows the weapons that would be used in various situations. The characters are realistic and compelling. The good guys are good and the bad guys are real bad, no punches being pulled here. Our society is ill prepared and our technology is fragile when it comes to CME's and a case can be made in this reviewers opinion for more preparation for a disaster such as the one described so realistically here. Vigilante Into the Fray American Post Apocalyptic EMP Thriller eBook Cliff Deane Reviews
The sequel to Into the Darkness is an excellent addition to the saga. The addition of Katie to the story is a big plus. I read as many Post-Apocalyptic novels as my time will allow and Cliff Deane is becoming my favorite. I am ex-military so I like the military slant to his stories and find his stories well researched and have plausible plots. The characters are well developed. The bad guys are really bad, while the good guys aren't Saints but get the job done.
I liked the first book Into the Darkness, but I love Into the Fray.
I have enjoyed the first three books in this series. Cliff Deane is one of those authors who will be on my radar.
Very entertaining and well written. I learned a bit of geography. Waiting for the next series. It's from American Indian perspective.
Purty good writing. I enjoyed the book but it dragged a bit more than the first volume, and had less to do with EMP realities than general political musing. Pick up the pace.
This book kept me interested and wanted to keep reading to find out what and how the troopers would handle anything they would come up against. I was very impressed as to how the book was written. On to the next one.
Just finished reading book 2 in the series and I loved it so much that I have to get the next one. The authors way of writing about this subject is totally engrossing and once you start you can't stop until you finish. If you like a lot of action then this series is a must to have.
This review will be very simple. The story line of an apocalyptic U.S.A. with competing militias trying to establish hegemony is a good one. The presentation of the book in terms of punctuation and grammar is poor and the language usage assumes the worst of every military man who has ever existed in the U.S., that being they are inept at speaking. There are more trite usages in this book than I have ever seen in any other stand alone book. It could be good but now it is mediocre at best.
